iPad misbehaving? Keep calm and reboot!

iPad misbehaving? Whether your iPad’s being unresponsive or slow, or apps are freezing, it’s time to reboot it. Turning it on and off clears its memory and sorts out any ‘rebellious’ apps that might be causing havoc. You won’t lose your work and open apps will still be open after the reboot.

Here’s how:

Press the Sleep/Wake button and hold it down for a few seconds until ‘slide to power off’ appears.

Slide the slider from left to the right. Your iPad will go off after about 10-15 seconds (after the white wheel that appears stops spinning).

Now press the Sleep/Wake button – again for a few seconds – turn the iPad back on. The startup screen will appear, showing the  logo onscreen whilst it does so. Depending on your version of iOS  – and the colour and model of your iPad – it will look something like this:

After the reboot your iPad will show your Home screen and you can now get back to what you were doing.

If your iPad has seized up and the Home button or Sleep/Wake button doesn’t respond at all – or the above procedure didn’t work –  you will need to do a hard reset. To do this you must hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for about 7 or 8 seconds. This forces the iPad to quit. Once it has, press the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the  logo appears and the iPad reboots. This should have sorted out your problems and you can carry on where you left off because, once again, your open apps will still be there waiting for you.
